As I’m preparing for the upcoming interview on Living Wellness Live with Stefanie Peters, I’ve been reading her book, Unleash Your Lady Boss: 10 Keys to Unlock your Ultimate Life and Ignite the Greatness Within. After reading Stefanie’s book, I’m really excited for the interview—she has some great stories and insights to share. Here’s are a few of my favorite quotes and some topics we may discuss at Living Wellness Live on Friday, March 9th. I hope you can tune into Facebook Live or attend in person!
These leadership thoughts are not just for lady bosses, they apply to dude bosses as well. And I firmly believe that every person is a leader in their own sphere of influence. So, read on and be encouraged from quotes from a real lady boss, Stefanie Peters.
“Don’t take the plan everyone says you’re supposed to follow. Instead, choose the greater purpose destined for you.”
This has been a personal struggle of mine for 20 years. As a people pleaser, I would be tossed about this way and that with decisions great and large, from what classes to take in high school to what wedding dress I would ultimately pick. The last 10 years has been a wonderful period of recognizing when people pleasing crosses the line from polite to destructive. Another book that has been eye opening is TrueFaced by Bill Thrall and Bruce McNicol. Learning about me has been one of the best and most fruitful journeys of my life.
“Run your race! Remember that the voice inside you will continue to gnaw at you until you answer the call. Your God-given idea, story, and business venture that will set the world on fire will continue to resurface—you can’t escape it. Don’t let the song inside you go unsung.”
I used to make lists of what I wanted to be when I grew up. They would always start with “mother,” then it would rotate between singer, teacher, professional athlete, and professional traveler. At one point, I wanted to be a cruise ship director, which I thought could cover several jobs on the list :). I have questioned my professional pursuits many many times over the last 15 years, thinking I must be off track because I get burned out. But I agree with Stefanie’s quote, that our purpose will continue to call to us, showing itself in what we are good at, what we are passionate about, and who we are becoming. For now, I am confident that I am following the path God desires for me as a wife, mother, business owner, and worship leader. I don’t have it all figured out, but I am singing my own song to the best of my ability. I hope you are encouraged to do the same!
“Life is won and lost in the mind.”
Yes! When I read Joyce Meyer’s book Battlefield of the Mind, I had dog-eared almost every page in the book. It was one of those MUST READ AGAIN books. Stefanie emphasizes the power of our thoughts in leadership and everyday life. She talks about needing to strengthen our mental muscles daily. “We need to command our mind to focus on her vision, regardless of our feelings. We can’t believe the lies our minds tell us when running on empty.” Stefanie sites accountability as an important way to stay on task with our self-talk. What’s going through your mind on a regular basis? Are the words you’re using with yourself positive and life-giving or are they critical and toxic?
“You can choose a growth mindset of abundance, positivity, and expansion, or you can choose a fixed mindset rooted in limitations.”
I think an important piece of leadership is learning what fills you up and practicing that on a regular basis. I am an introvert so it’s important for me to block out quiet time in my day. Exercise and eating well are other important pieces to my puzzle. When I eat tons of vegetables and very few sugars, I have an abundance of energy and I’m able to make better decisions. I’m a better leader when I’m calm and nourished. If you haven’t done so, learn the ways that fill you up, so you can lead from abundance, positivity, and expansion.
A key to personal growth is to read, listen, and learn from those who have gone before you. We learn from each other. I believe God created us to lift one another up and grow together. If you’ve been too busy to focus on your own personal or professional growth, pray about it! Ask God to show you a path and then listen. I believe he speaks to us all the time.
Blessings on your journey lady (and dude) bosses!
